Dr. Jacob Henderson’s journey into medicine began on the football field. While playing high school football, he sustained an injury that required medical care. The confidence, compassion, and professionalism demonstrated by his physician and the entire healthcare team left a lasting impression, inspiring him to pursue a career where he could have the same positive impact on others.

Dr. Henderson continued his athletic career at Thomas More College in Northern Kentucky, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology while playing collegiate football. During his undergraduate years, he received numerous academic and athletic honors, including Dean’s Honors, President’s Athletic Conference Academic Honors, and the prestigious That’s My Boy Award, recognizing excellence both in the classroom and on the field.

The path to medical school was not without challenges. After an initial setback, Dr. Henderson strengthened his academic foundation through graduate-level coursework and research before earning acceptance to the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky. He graduated in 2021 with highest honors and received the Board of Trustees Award, presented to the student with the highest cumulative GPA over four years of medical school.

Dr. Henderson completed his Internal Medicine residency at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Caring for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit during this unprecedented time strengthened both his clinical skills and his commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

His passion for nephrology developed from both personal experience and outstanding mentorship. As a child, he watched his mother become a living kidney donor, giving him an early appreciation for the profound impact kidney care can have on patients and families. During residency, exceptional mentors introduced him to the complexity of renal physiology and the rapidly evolving treatments available for kidney disease. He was drawn to a specialty where a deep understanding of physiology, combined with advancing therapies, could meaningfully improve patients’ lives.

Dr. Henderson completed his Nephrology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2026. While at Mayo Clinic, he was honored with the Fellow Educator Golden Stethoscope Award, recognizing the fellow who demonstrated an exceptional commitment to medical student education. His dedication to lifelong learning, teaching, and evidence-based medicine continues to shape his approach to patient care.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Henderson has authored and contributed to peer-reviewed nephrology research, including publications in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. His research interests include chronic kidney disease, kidney stone prevention, and glomerular diseases, with additional work focused on IgA nephropathy and improving outcomes for patients with kidney disease.

After completing his training, Dr. Henderson chose to return home to Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati region to serve the community that helped shape him. His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, acute kidney injury, glomerular diseases, kidney stone prevention, and dialysis care.

Dr. Henderson believes that exceptional medical care begins with listening. He strives to build meaningful relationships with his patients, ensuring they feel heard, understood, and actively involved in every decision regarding their health. He believes every patient deserves a physician who combines the most current evidence-based medicine with genuine compassion, clear communication, and individualized care. His goal is not only to treat kidney disease, but also to educate, empower, and partner with patients throughout their healthcare journey so they can make informed decisions and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Known for his calm demeanor and approachable personality, Dr. Henderson is committed to ensuring every patient feels respected, informed, and confident in their care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Henderson enjoys golfing, pickleball, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals.
