Alexander Pennekamp, DO
Dr. Pennekamp is originally from Cincinnati, specifically the Covedale neighborhood, and is a proud graduate of Elder High School. His academic and medical journey has taken him to Los Angeles and Philadelphia, though he completed his Internal Medicine training at Christ Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident.
During his time in California, he spent two years teaching AP Physics and Chemistry at John C. Fremont High School in South Central Los Angeles. A natural people-person, he was elected class president in both his undergraduate and medical school programs.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Pennekamp enjoys exploring new experiences through food, sights, and culture, and he has the Yelp Elite badge to prove it. He recently celebrated ten years as a Yelp Elite member and continues to pursue his goal of trying every restaurant in Cincinnati. He also finds joy in decompressing through non-medical writing and reading.
What truly sets Dr. Pennekamp apart as a provider is his personal experience as a patient. Having endured serious illness, chemotherapy, and extended hospitalizations, he brings a deep understanding of the patient perspective to his medical practice. His favorite aspect of medicine is listening to his patients’ stories and learning about their lives.
In the field of Nephrology, Dr. Pennekamp is especially passionate about kidney transplant, home/peritoneal dialysis, and nephrology education.
