Jonathan S. Mersereau, NP

Jonathan Mersereau grew up in Portland, OR and got inspired to work in the medical field due to his grandmother who was ill with Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. He fell in love with the medical field at Western Oregon University where he tutored biology and took advance biology courses such as immunology, neurobiology, and cadaver dissection. He decided to travel across the country to further his education and build my skills in Ohio at Capital University and later at Maryville University.

What Jonathan learned at Western Oregon University and his nursing schools (Capital and Maryville University) helped him meet each patient where they are in understanding their disease process to achieve health literacy to improve the quality of their life. He feels the time that he takes to understand his patients interests to aid in their learning process is what separates him as a provider.

As a nurse Jonathan was blessed to have many physicians, NPs and PAs to learn from that encouraged him to go to graduate school, where he ultimately decided to become a nurse practitioner.

Jonathan Mersereau first fell in love with hospital medicine and intensive care medicine and worked in those fields for 3 years and he decided to change roles into nephrology for a couple reasons. The first is the nephrologist that he has met were also brilliant and loved their jobs and their passion was contagious. The second reason is because the kidneys are both complex and able to regulate so much more than people realize and makes him want to help others understand how important kidney health is and how to take care of them. It is too easy to under appreciate the kidneys and this often leads to kidney disease in the future as we often don’t do our part to help them function at their best as long as possible.

Jonathan looks forward in being part of his patients lives to help them both understand and achieve better kidney health.

Besides the medical field, other interests Jonathan has include being with wife and his son born on the new year of 2023 on his off days and exploring through camping and trying new activities together. In addition, he appreciates working out, enjoying binging Netflix every now and then, and reading fantasy novels like his favorite authors Terry Brooks and Christopher Paolini.
